The Greater New Britain Community Seed Library

Through the time-honored traditions of sharing seeds and seed-saving, we celebrate biodiversity, nurture locally adapted plant varieties, and foster community resilience.

The Greater New Britain Community Seed Library is now available! The Community Seed Library is a free program that offers free seeds and education to community members. We have seed libraries located at three libraries:

  • New Britain Public Library

  • Plainville Public Library

  • Southington Public Library

The seed libraries are stocked with seeds that members can “check-out” for free to plant in their gardens. The library operates on the honor system; you become a member automatically when you withdraw seeds to plant. We encourage all members to return seeds to the seed libraries, either by seed-saving or by donating packets of purchased seed.
