Apply for a Fall 2026 internship at New Britain ROOTS!
New Britain ROOTS has a paid internship for the Fall 2026 semester for a student with either a GIS background, sociological field experience or an applied anthropology background. The intern will work with ROOTS and with community residents to identify good tree planting sites, tree stories and tree stewards. We look for experience in short informal and semi-structured interviewing and field documentation, confidence in canvassing/door-knocking, and/or GIS experience. The intern will also pitch in with Fall school and community garden and tree care, often working with NB high school students.
“Rooted Together” is the two-year Trees for Communities grant that New Britain ROOTS recently won. ROOTS staff, volunteers and interns work with the City of New Britain and its residents to expand tree canopy and community access to green spaces. Opportunities include help accessing, planting and caring for tree saplings, as well as de-vining and mulching services. The grant is funded by the USDA, Forest Service, supported by the Inflation Reduction Act, and administered by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
