Our Gardens

ROOTS supports the expansion of the urban agriculture movement in New Britain through a variety of programs available to city residents of all ages. Growing food in our local community alongside gardeners, students, and partners:

  • Improves access to fresh, local produce throughout New Britain

  • Creates opportunities for residents to learn about growing their own food

  • Preserves green spaces that we can all enjoy.

“The positive impacts that outdoor and garden learning have on overall wellbeing are abundant”

Learning in gardens and outdoor classrooms encourages creative thinking, social development, and a connection with the environment. Gardening provides an engaging way for students to use their bodies and minds through hands-on, exploratory learning. When students learn how to grow food themselves, they are more receptive to eating fruits and vegetables.
