Announcing New Britain ROOTS' Next Executive Director

NEW BRITAIN, CT – New Britain ROOTS, Inc. is thrilled to announce Ashley Stewart as our next Executive Director following a comprehensive search launched in March by the Board of Directors. Ashley joins New Britain ROOTS as our second ever executive director, stewarding our programs to grow food access, urban agriculture, and education in New Britain.

“Welcoming Ashley to the New Britain ROOTS team is a sweet start to our next chapter of growth,” says Vice Chair of the Board of Directors Meg Hourigan. “The board and staff immediately connected with her values and approach to community-based work, and we’re eager to work with her on the growth and sustainability of New Britain ROOTS. Ashley’s commitment to people, and growing our connections with land and food, is deeply aligned with New Britain ROOTS’ purpose.”

Ashley is an experienced nonprofit leader, previously directing the Connecticut Horticultural Society and directing program operations at KNOX, Inc., an urban farm organization in Hartford. Her experience with urban agriculture, youth development, and organizational operations and finance make her a superb fit for our organization growing food justice in New Britain.

“I am honored to lead New Britain ROOTS into its next chapter of success as the new Executive Director. My previous experience has thoroughly prepared me to assume this role, and I couldn’t be more grateful to the ROOTS team for making my transition so seamless. I’m looking forward to establishing new connections in the New Britain community and beyond”, says Stewart.

Stewart and the Board of Directors applaud our skilled and dedicated staff, who continued New Britain ROOTS programming and growing season preparations during our transitional period and hiring process. Their hard work has ensured that we can continue serving our mission in New Britain.

Ashley started her position at New Britain ROOTS on Monday, June 29 and will be visiting community events and meetings as well as our garden sites and the mobile market and farmers’ market all summer to connect with the New Britain ROOTS community!
